AB - Asthma is a chronic respiratory disorder with a multifaceted pathophysiology characterized by acute irritation, inflammation, hyperresponsiveness, bronchial constriction and blockage in the lungs. According to World Health Organization, this obstructive lung disease can affect people of all age groups & its incidence has been increasing gradually since 1980s with approximately 250,000 deaths per year, making it a key target of clinical and public health initiatives. Extensive studies unveil that it is a sickness characterized through recur-  rent breathlessness and wheezing resulting in episodic or persistent respiratory symptoms & airflow obstruction that can vary in severity and frequency. Major thrust by pharmaceutical countries is focused towards development of new plant based drugs to treat asthma. Based on a detailed review of the medical literature, this document presents comprehensive data on the epidemiology of asthma disorders, its causes and complete information along with possible measures for controlling the problem.
